Prevent Child Abuse Delaware Board of Directors Announces Appointment of New Executive Director, Darlene Sullivan

The Board of Directors of Prevent Child Abuse Delaware (PCAD) is pleased to announce that Darlene Sullivan is the new Executive Director beginning on April 1, 2022.

“After an extensive search, we are thrilled to welcome Darlene to PCAD. Darlene joins us as an experienced nonprofit leader and passionate advocate,” Board President Brooke Balan stated. “We’re excited to support Darlene as she builds on the foundation created by our retired Executive Director Karen DeRasmo.”

Having founded and served as the Executive Director of an internationally recognized disability-focused organization for over twenty-nine years, Darlene brings to PCAD the expertise which comes from growing a mission dedicated to serving those who need to be empowered and seen.

As a former Special Education teacher at The Centreville School here in Delaware, and as a former foster parent, Darlene brings her compassion for all children to PCAD and looks forward to being part of a team serving as a leader within the child well-being and advocacy arena.

A graduate of West Chester University, Darlene grew up and has resided within the Brandywine Valley community her entire life.  She served for eight years on the Board of Directors for Assistance Dogs International and has mentored many young nonprofits within that industry and her community.

Darlene and her husband Robert have enjoyed volunteering for and supporting The Parkesburg Point, a Christian youth center in addition to fostering rescue Greyhounds and guinea pigs.  They share their family with four dogs, five cats, chickens and a horse.  Darlene and her husband Robert currently live in Cochranville, PA and cherish any time they can spend with their son Erik (a pilot), daughter in law Caitlin and four grand dogs.

Sullivan shared, “It is imperative that as a community we support our parents as they work to build strong families free from neglect and abuse.  PCAD is doing this great work and I’m thrilled to be joining the team.”
